If you really care...

I was reading the little blurb about Allison Mack and Annette O'Toole returning on some website...from there people commented about other returning. One of the main ones they referred to was Lex's return. Some people just foolishly stating, "Where's Lex?!" (If you are a fan you know why there is no Lex) to the other idiots stating that it is a slap in the face to the fans if he doesn't return.

This is a HUGE nitpick of mine. WHERE does it state that a character has to hang around until the show goes off the air to satisfy every irate fan out there. The fan's watch the show for entertainment, the actor's and actresses work over twelve hour days sometimes for your hour of a week enjoyment. Then they'll argue, well if it wasn't for the fans they wouldn't have had a job. Suck it. Guess what, I work for the government...you could argue if it wasn't for tax payers I wouldn't have a job. It isn't going to stop me from saying I quite and going elsewhere.

It's a good idea to appreciate your fans and respect them, not have you world revolve around them.

if Allison Mack wouldn't have come back would I have been disappointed? Yes. Would I have ranted and raved that Chlollie was ruined? Yes. Would I have said Allison Mack slapped me in the face as a fan for not sticking it out another year and living away from her home so that I could get twenty hours of enjoyment out of a whole year? No.

Agree. You can't tell me ANYone who's been with Smallville from the beginning really expected it to run 10 years. And while the other actors could do other projects during breaks, MR having to keep his head shaved was a huge obstacle to his doing so. He doesn't owe Smallville anything, and it's not his fault that he been gone several YEARS and apparently TPTB never really planned for the eventuality that they couldn't talk him into coming back for at least one more episode. I've been reading that TW is still doing a full-court press trying to sell him on the idea; at this point I just want to say, "Run away, MR! Be free!"

And yet, I am a hypocrite, because I'm still bitterly disappointed that AM didn't sign on for at least a few more episodes. I don't feel any sense of anger entitlement that she OWES it to the fans or anything, I'm just...disappointed, even while I'm grateful that she agreed to the eps she did so we at least have a chance of seeing Chloe go out in the way she deserves.

I wish they would just drop the whole thing about trying to get him to come back. I just roll my eyes. It isn't that I wouldn't love for him to come back, I would, but stop running it into the ground.

As for AM, I agree. I mean I am still disappointment. I don't think it makes you a hypocrite. I mean your a fan, you should be disappointed, not thrilled at her exit. But there is a difference between being sad at her not being on Smallville and considering the actor/actress not returning to be a slap in the face. On holds a lot more animosity.

ITA. The thing is that MR has been absolutely awesome to his fans. At the time he left he was clear that he wouldn't be coming back and he's maintained that consistently. Let's face it, as an actor the buzz generated for him if he kept hinting and leading fans on about maybe returning would probably be beneficial, but he's always cared more about his fans than that and so he's been very straightforward even when TPTB on the show have purposefully jerked the viewers around about it.

Who knows, maybe MR will stop by at the end to wrap things up. But even if he doesn't he's been very respectful of his fans and I find it sad that some of them can't seem to return the favor (I've seen some be downright insulting about this subject). MR is an actor and all he's ever owed anyone was the good performance he was being paid to deliver. I think most people agree that he went over and beyond with that and the utter entitlement in people thinking that they're owed something more is disturbing.

I completely agree. I hate comments that say Michael owes it to SV, that he's not doing anything in his career, etc. Michael gave us seven wonderful years. For seven years he shaved and waxed and gave the role his all. I'd love to have him back, but if he doesn't that's completely understandable.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I can see him not wanting to come back and play one note villain Lex.

I agree with you. The thing is: fans are awesome, obsessed fans are even more awesome, obsessed fans that feel entitled to certain things are annoying. Michael not coming back, is probably a really good career move for him. Coming back to Smallville, even for an episode would solidify that image that MR is only known as Lex or that he only did that as an actor. If you look at his IMDB page, he's working, he's moving forward. Coming back to Smallville, even for a short episode, or a short glimpse, would mean shaving his head AGAIN, and setting himself further into that image of Lex Luthor, something he's probably trying to overcome in the last few years. He's given us seven years of really entertaining acting. When I think of Lex Luthor, that's him that I picture. Not because he was the Lex Luthor of my generation, because I watched other Lex's. (and it's not because it's Smallville, when I think of Clark Kent, Dean Cain comes to mind first) He gave us amazing performances, time to let him go, though.

At the same time, I'm with you when it comes to AM, my disappointment probably has more to do with the fact that Chloe was my favorite from the get-go, she was the one I identified with, who hasn't been the cool girl with a platonic love for her best friend? And I didn't feel, and still don't feel, as if Chloe's story is over. I think there's so much more to explore with Chloe. She is starting a new relationship (that isn't doomed from the start, unlike she and Jimmy - there's no way that Chloe could really be happy with a guy that didn't challenge her), she has Watchtower business, she has stuff to do in the show still. At the same time I can understand AM. Leaving now, it's probably easier for her to find new projects and it's been 10 years after all. It's a long time for anyone to be in the same job, even if it's not an usual 9 to 5 job, like she said in an interview, it's a third of her life.

I just really hope that TBTB don't waste her few episodes with fillers. Use your time with AM wisely!
